Optimum, a blockchain infrastructure company specializing in decentralized memory solutions, has secured funding in an angel round backed by key figures in the Web3 sector. The company, co-founded by MIT professor Muriel Médard, is introducing Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) to blockchain technology. Originally developed for large-scale distributed networks in telecommunications and aerospace, RLNC is expected to improve data transmission efficiency and scalability across blockchain ecosystems.
The funding round includes support from industry leaders such as Abhijeet Mahagaonkar (CTO, Polychain), Arthur Cheong (Founder, DeFiance Capital), Gracy Chen (CEO, Bitget), Robinson Burkey (Co-founder, Wormhole), Sandeep Nailwal (Co-founder, Polygon), and others. Optimum's approach involves decentralized Random Access Memory (deRAM) and peer-to-peer data propagation, which aim to optimize blockchain storage and accelerate transaction speeds. The company’s solutions are designed to support Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks, validators, and developers by reducing bandwidth consumption and operational costs.
Optimum plans to launch a private testnet in March, allowing blockchain networks and validators to integrate and assess the technology. The company’s memory infrastructure seeks to enhance data handling capabilities, improve transaction efficiency, and address scalability limitations in blockchain ecosystems.
