Brevan Howard Digital has made a $20 million investment in Kinto’s on-chain financial platform, marking a significant development in the growing intersection of traditional finance and decentralized finance (DeFi). This investment, managed by Brevan Howard Digital’s Abu Dhabi branch, is part of the firm’s strategy to expand its digital asset portfolio while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. Kinto offers a solution tailored for financial institutions, providing a platform that integrates KYC and AML directly at the blockchain level, along with robust security features such as default wallet insurance.
Kinto’s platform is designed to facilitate DeFi participation for institutions that require strong compliance and security measures. Through the deployment of smart contract wallets, the platform allows these entities to engage in on-chain activities, such as its mining program, which rewards participants through token emissions. The program will run for 10 years, with rewards decreasing over time. Brevan Howard Digital’s investment positions the firm as one of the first traditional financial institutions to utilize Kinto's capabilities, further bridging the gap between traditional and decentralized finance.
CEO and co-founder of Kinto, Ramon Recuero, anticipates continued growth in institutional involvement within DeFi platforms like Kinto. He notes that financial institutions have been awaiting clearer regulatory guidelines and compliance features, both of which Kinto provides. Recuero expects more firms to follow Brevan Howard’s example as the DeFi space evolves and expands its offerings to meet institutional requirements.
