Keplr, a cryptocurrency wallet with a strong foothold in the Cosmos ecosystem, has announced the completion of a $5 million seed funding round. Led by Nick Tomaino's 1confirmation, the round included backing from Coinbase Ventures, HashKey Capital, Chorus One Ventures, Skip Protocol, Binary Builders, and others. The equity round, finalized late last year, values Keplr at $50 million, underscoring the wallet’s growing prominence in the blockchain sector.
Launched in 2021, Keplr initially focused on providing wallet solutions tailored to the Cosmos ecosystem. Its trajectory faced challenges during the 2022 collapse of Terra, a blockchain built on Cosmos technology, but Keplr has since emerged as a leading wallet in the ecosystem, serving over 2 million users. In 2023, Keplr broadened its horizons by adding support for Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible chains in August, followed by Starknet integration in October, its first collaboration with a non-EVM blockchain. The platform estimates it currently facilitates the self-custody of assets valued at over $5 billion.
The new funding will enable Keplr to expand its engineering and product development teams, focusing on enhancing the user experience and supporting additional EVM and non-EVM blockchains. While there are no immediate plans to launch a token, Keplr’s co-founder Josh Lee highlighted the need to prioritize connecting ownership, verifiability, and usability within the platform before considering tokenization.
