Elastos has raised $20 million in funding as it works to expand BeL2, its Bitcoin-based decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol. The investment, led by private firm Rollman Management, will be directed toward integrating Bitcoin’s liquidity into DeFi while positioning Elastos’ merge-mined ELA token as a Bitcoin reserve asset.
BeL2 is designed to allow Bitcoin holders to collateralize their BTC within their own wallets while interacting with Ethereum-based smart contracts. The protocol enables functions such as stablecoin issuance and peer-to-peer lending without requiring third-party custody. The initiative reflects a broader industry push to incorporate Bitcoin into decentralized financial services, tapping into the network’s market capitalization while addressing its historical limitations in supporting DeFi applications.
