Byzantine Finance has raised $3 million in a pre-seed funding round aimed at furthering the development of its institutional-focused protocol. Node Capital and Blockwall Ventures led the round, with participation from over 30 investors, including Lightshift, Masterkey, and Kiln Ventures. Angel investors from EigenLayer, LayerZero, and Ledger were also among the backers. The funding will support Byzantine’s efforts to build an aggregation layer that facilitates liquidity and state-sharing across blockchain networks while preserving their governance structures.
Restaking has gained traction as an approach to enhancing security across proof-of-stake networks by allowing staked assets to be used across multiple protocols. Byzantine Finance is positioning itself to serve institutional investors, offering a structured system for managing restaking portfolios. The company describes its model as an "internet bond," where capital is committed through staked assets to generate returns.
Fragmentation remains a challenge in the restaking sector, spanning networks such as Ethereum, its Layer 2 ecosystems, Solana, and Bitcoin. Byzantine aims to streamline institutional access by providing a platform for risk-adjusted, segregated strategies.
