Breez, a developer of bitcoin payment solutions, has raised $5 million in a funding round led by ego death capital, with additional support from Entrée Capital, Timechain, and Plan ₿ Fund. The funding aims to support Breez's ongoing efforts to enhance its Bitcoin Lightning SDK, a tool that enables developers to integrate peer-to-peer payments into their applications.

Since its launch less than 18 months ago, the Breez SDK has been integrated into more than 40 applications, collectively reaching 1.5 million users. These apps, which include platforms such as Relai, Cake Wallet, and Klever, processed over $4.5 million in transaction volume in 2024. Breez has also introduced a nodeless version of its SDK, simplifying the adoption of Lightning payments by eliminating channel management complexities. This version has seen significant uptake, now representing the majority of the platform’s user base.

Looking ahead, Breez plans to use the funding to support new Lightning standards, such as BOLT 12, and improve multi-device synchronization for its SDK. The company also intends to launch Misty Breez, a reference app that demonstrates how its nodeless SDK can enhance user experiences. These initiatives aim to strengthen Breez's position in driving the adoption of bitcoin payments across crypto, fintech, and mainstream applications.
